Google Maps El Capitan

CONCEPT | CREATIVE | PRODUCTION

Google Maps gave us an audacious mission: allow people to experience one of the wildest places on earth, the vertical walls of Yosemite. Through ground-breaking mapping techniques, and in collaboration with Google engineers, we collected the imagery and built a campaign to celebrate the 3,000-foot sheer rock face of El Capitan.

LAUNCH VIDEO

To showcase the magic of Yosemite's El Capitan to people all over the world, Sender + Big UP created a short film about the human desire to delve into the unknown.

360° PANOS

In partnership with Google Maps, we pioneered new techniques to capture high resolution 360° panoramic imagery in a vertical environment. By interacting with these images, users see and feel what only elite climbers have experienced.

STREET VIEW

For the first time, Street View went vertical, allowing viewers to scale the entire wall. Capturing The Nose route on El Capitan was no easy task. It took a combination of innovative rigging, creative thinking and the great Alex Honnold to make it happen. The result is extraordinary.

INTERACTIVE WEBSITE

The interactive website, created in partnership with Ubilabs and Google Maps, is a fully immersive joyride up America's greatest wall. Scroll up the wall, explore panoramic images captured in the most outrageous positions, and hear from Lynn Hill, Alex Honnold, Tommy Caldwell and park experts.
